Dr. Carkner believed that staying on the cutting edge of optometric technology was one way he could better serve his patients. Traveling around the continent speaking at conferences, he was an important advocate for the advancement of contact lenses in their earliest days. As a trustee of Pacific University, he was instrumental in establishing the current School of Optometry. His sons, Donald and David, along with his grandson, Jeffry, continue to offer the latest optometric technology and are still leaders in the field of contact lenses.
